Best of 2022: Wedding Ceremony Details

Pretty in Pink (Readers Choice Awards Winner)

The chapel in the woods at the Inn at Weathersfield, is always a lovely spot for a wedding ceremony. However, this couple took it to another level with the bold pink floral aisle decor, matching ceremony arch, and coordinated petal drop as they walked back down the aisle as newlyweds.

Devoted Flower Girls

These flower girls were devoted to their duties and their enthusiasm kicked off this summer wedding with an unbeatable energy. Weddings by Janet Dunn shared that one emptied her basket of rose petals long before the end of the aisle, and both were so joyful, the guests cheered! We can’t think of a sweeter start to a ceremony.

Planting Roots

This bride thoughtfully considered every detail of their ceremony set up, including transforming this beautiful old maple tree at The Soule House & Carriage Barn into a simple, elegant ceremony backdrop with draped linens and a boho floral display. Gorgeous!

A Grand Entrance

This epic Indian Sikh wedding ceremony, planned by NJOY Weddings & Events, began with the BARAAT, a parade during which the groom makes his way to the wedding site. After the groom and his party were situated, the bride made her way to the groom in front of the holy text. The colors, the traditions, the lavish decor … each detail of this ceremony is memorable.

This couple opted for a bubble shower instead of throwing flower petals to close out their Sleepy Hollow Inn wedding ceremony. The effect is unique, whimsical, and oh-so-fun!

VENUE SPOTLIGHT ON THE INN AT WEATHERSFIELD

If you’re looking for a venue that feels like a secret, tucked-in-the-woods gem, where the focus is farm-to-table menus in an elegant, rustic setting, the Inn at Weathersfield is your perfect match. Set on 21 wooded acres, the Inn is an intimate, charming wedding venue where you can relax and celebrate with family and friends for a wedding weekend full of activities and delicious eats. Innkeeper Marilee shares more about this unique venue.

The space: What’s the vibe?

Think: a private chapel in the woods, and a farm-to-table dining experience.

The amenities: What’s Included?

For ceremonies, the Chapel in the Woods is completely hidden and accessed by a winding path. It’s surrounded by native ferns, tall pines and evergreens. The reception space on our event lawn features a stamped concrete patio that looks like wood planks, a pavilion deck on one end with a backdrop of evergreens, and the dining deck on the other end with a built-in, wood burning fire pit.

Use of the full property is included for two days. We provide tables and chairs (seating up to 120), all tableware, glassware, service ware, etc. We ask that couples rent a tent for receptions over 45 if they are hoping for an outdoor reception (over this number can’t be moved inside if weather becomes an issue).

We also provide lodging for up to 12 guests.

From start to finish we provide the backdrop for your weekend. Couples enjoy rehearsal/welcome dinners in our vegetable garden, cocktails on the front porch, and a farewell breakfast in the parlour.

The area: What is there to do in the local area?

We are located just 9 miles off Interstate 91, just 20 miles from Woodstock and 20 minutes from Ludlow/Okemo. Ascutney Mountain is minutes away for hiking, mountain biking and exploring. The Connecticut River is nearby for kayaking. There are breweries nearby – Outer Limits and Harpoon – and space to play lawn games outside at the Inn.

The history: Does the property have a rich history?

The Inn began as a four room house, built by a Revolutionary War veteran in 1792. Over time, it expanded to include 12 guest rooms, all with private baths. Historic charm is maintained with wood burning fireplaces, exposed beams, and wide plank floors throughout the property. Every room has been remodeled for modern comforts and includes free WiFi, smart TVs and either a king or queen bed.

1. Favorite moment during a wedding: As the couple walks down the aisle. I am so happy and honored they chose to get married at the Inn.
2. Favorite thing to do in VT: Hike Mt. Ascutney or kayak down the river…oh, and star gaze at night.
3. Best advice for couples: Find a venu that you feel connected to, not only the location, but the setting and staff.

AN CLASSICALLY ELEGANT INTIMATE WEDDING AT THE INN AT WEATHERSFIELD

This lovely wedding is prettier than a picture. Hosted at the Inn at Weathersfield, beautiful details and heartfelt celebration combine for this wow-worthy, intimate wedding. (Which happened to fall on the bride’s parents’ 39th wedding anniversary!) Honestly, we can’t say we’re surprised; the bride, Liz, is the wedding sales manager at Topnotch Resort, so she has an industry insider’s perspective!

The Benefits of a Microwedding

Liz and Scott had to reschedule their wedding not once, but three times due to the pandemic. They ended up dropping their guest list from 120 people to 25, and although the hassle of rescheduling was exhausting, the end result was amazing. “We never would have been ones to suggest a microwedding, but after it happened, we realized that we got to spend a full weekend with our immediate families and closest friends without distractions,” says Liz.

Inspired by the Vermont lakes and a breezy vibe, they created a truly magical setting. Classic white and pastel blooms by Blossoming Bough added effortless elegance to the event. Kelsey Regan Photography captured the beauty and love of the day. Check out the full gallery below!

FAMILY TRADITIONS INSPIRED THIS SUMMER VERMONT WEDDING

Daryl and Kyle celebrated their summer Vermont wedding surrounded by family at the Inn at Weathersfield. The couple wanted to be sure they honored their family heritages for their wedding. The groom, Kyle, is from Vermont, and bride Daryl’s family is from the Taos Pueblo tribe in New Mexico.

A Native American Smudging Ceremony

During their ceremony Daryl’s dad performed a smudging ceremony. “This consists of burning cedar branches and ‘smudging’ (waving) the smoke around the couple and all of the attendees,” said photographer Kate Seymour. “The purpose of this is to ward off bad spirits and offer protection and blessings. After this, he presented the bride and groom with a very special gift: two eagle feathers from the tips of an eagle’s wings. He explained that these feathers are the ones that steer the bird in the direction it wants to go – a perfect symbol for a new marriage.”

The wedding was on the hottest days of the summer. This go with the flow couple rolled with the new plan to move the reception inside so everyone could enjoy the air conditioning during dinner and toasts. After dinner the party moved outside to enjoy dancing under the tent! See their full gallery below.

This tented wedding is the definition of casual elegance. Small tables were set up around the sail tent to maintain social distance, but the beautiful, natural table decor makes it feel more intimate.

This private beachfront residence is transformed into a boho wedding venue reminiscent of a tropical oasis. A ceremony space is crafted with lanterns, bright florals and beach grasses. Oriental rugs and twinkle lights create a dance floor in the sand. Overall, it nails the tropical boho beach party vibe.

A COLORFUL ELOPEMENT AT THE INN AT WEATHERSFIELD

Jodie and Sam originally planned to get married in Wales, Jodie’s home country, so her grandparents could join in the celebration. But, as COVID lingered on, the couple knew they had to make an alternate plan.

“The idea of getting married without them was incredibly painful,” says Jodie. “The Inn At Weathersfield informed us that they had an opening a week away on July 30th, which just happened to be my grandparents’ 65th wedding anniversary.” The couple took it as a sign and planned their elopement. The couple wrote their own vows (Sam accompanied with his guitar) and their beloved dog, Loup, sat by their side waiting to offer their rings.

“After the ceremony we were given champagne to toast with and we whisked ourselves away to the river to have a post-wedding dip,” recalls Jodie. “We spent the next two days at the Inn, eating good food, playing cards, and being happy newlyweds. It was hard not to be with our family and friends at the wedding, but we felt their presence in the trees surrounding us. We can’t wait to celebrate with them in person whenever it’s safe to do so.”
