After choosing a venue, catering is one of the biggest choices you make while planning your wedding. Increasingly, couples are choosing food trucks to replace traditional catering or to supplement it. Why? It’s a great way to showcase a couple’s personality and add an element of fun and casualness to the celebration. We’re lucky in Vermont to have several delicious options to choose from that give your guests a taste of Vermont!
“Food trucks provide guests with a fun and interactive food and beverage experience,” says Sol, co-founder of Farmers & Foragers. “There is no need for structured dining or seating, which is often one of the more frustrating coordination elements of a wedding. Food trucks allow a range in vibe from a laid back picnic style to a black tux wedding with a full raw bar and caviar.”
As mentioned above, food trucks can offer a variety of services and menu options. If your truck offers full catering services they may be able to handle everything from appetizers to entrees (maybe some served truck-side and others in a buffet). Or, maybe you elect to do more traditional catering for cocktail hour and dinner, but surprise your guests with late-night tacos or pizza during the reception. Whatever you decide, be sure to share both your event timeline and head count with the food truck so you can plan to have food ready to go – and avoid guests waiting in line.
Questions to consider when booking a food truck for your wedding:
- Do they provide all-in catering or will you need to work with multiple vendors? Are you comfortable with that?
- Do they provide dishes/silverware/napkins etc. or will you be responsible?
- Is there adequate parking at your venue for a truck (or multiple)?
- Do they need power?
- What is your backup plan if there is inclement weather?
- If needed, do you have options for guests with food allergies?
