Read on to learn more about Anne and her floral design.

How did you get into the wedding industry?

I have worked in garden centers and flower shops for a long time. 20 years ago I moved to Vermont in order to grow flowers and shrubbery specifically for my design work. I just loved the fact that weddings incorporate multiple small and large floral designs that all work together to create a mood for the day so I leaned more into that type of work and the rest is history.

How would you describe your style?

I lean toward a natural style. I love to utilize lots of different blossoms, adding interest and texture.

What inspires your work?

I often let the most stunning blossoms on the farm, like large, lush blush peonies, or fabulous café au lait dahlias, lead me through the design process.

Any special tips for couples for choosing or working with a wedding professional like yourself or a wedding tip in general?

I think it is important to have a general idea of what you’re hoping for, and to stay open to ideas. When you’re open to all the possibilities, you may be surprised and find something more cost effective, in season or just more stunning!

I also remind wedding couples and family members to relax and enjoy their company on the day of the event, and trust their professionals to worry about the details so they can be fully present!

What’s your favorite moment during a wedding?

Prior to the big day,  I love walking the couple and wedding families around our flower gardens and greenhouses to plan the wedding florals. That experience comes to life during the actual wedding day and it is so nice to see everyone’s reactions to the final product.

What’s your favorite thing to do in Vermont?

When wedding season winds down, I absolutely love spending time skiing! You can find me enjoying bluebird days at Sugarbush and Mad River Glen.

If you weren’t a wedding professional what would you do?

Before moving to Vermont, I managed a large garden center and conventional flower shop in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.  I had opportunities to decorate many historical properties in Pennsylvania, and  while I did some floral designs for weddings then, it wasn’t to the extent of what I do now. I imagine if I wasn’t in the wedding industry, I would still be around flowers, decorating and gardening.

What’s a fun fact about yourself?

My farm is filled with more than just lush, beautiful flowers! I also have llamas, sheep, chickens and turkeys.

Thank you Anne for sharing your love for all things wedding florals with us! Learn more about Flower Power VT in the Vermont Weddings Vendor Guide.

These Brides Crafted a Unique & Meaningful Wedding Day All Their Own

Erin and Rachel’s colorful wedding is sure to put a smile on your face and inspire you today! These two brides had a clear vision for their big day – and with the help of their wedding team, brought those stunning dreams to life with their fall wedding in Waterbury, Vermont.

Colette Kulig Photography captured each heartfelt memory and meaningful detail. This couple’s celebration is a good reminder that with a little creativity and a lot of love, anything is possible when it comes to your Vermont wedding!

A Day Filled With One-of-a-Kind Wedding Details

Erin and Rachel put a lot of thought into every detail, making sure their big day was truly one-of-a-kind. They started the day with handwritten letters that they read to each other during their first look. It was a beautiful and intimate moment that set the tone for the rest of the day.

M’s Wedding Flowers created the lush arrangements that added pops of color to every corner of the venue. From the bouquets to the centerpieces, every detail was autumnal perfection.

The reception was just as fun-filled and creative as the rest of the day. There was colorful confetti, a scavenger hunt, and of course, plenty of dancing. It was a celebration of love and life, and everyone had a great time.

Amazing Bridal Style

But perhaps the most unique element of Erin and Rachel’s wedding was Erin’s black, beaded jumpsuit. This non-traditional bridal look was a showstopper and even won the Best of 2022: Wedding Style category! We can’t stop swooning over it.

Hopcraft Collective crafted hair and makeup looks for the brides that accentuated their natural beauty and matched their styles perfectly.

The Best Wedding Songs For Every Part of Your Day

Selecting the right music can make all the difference in creating the perfect atmosphere for your special day. There are a few things to keep in mind when selecting music for different parts of your wedding day. We asked Vermont wedding DJ Nick of 802 Events for his best tips to help you choose the best wedding songs for your ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and reception. Crank up their playlist and get ready to party!

Wedding Ceremony Music

Your wedding ceremony is the cornerstone of the celebration. As you and your partner exchange vows and make your commitment official, the music should reflect your love story and the importance of this moment.

When selecting music for your ceremony, consider choosing a mix of traditional and modern songs.

“There are a lot of great instrumental versions of classic songs that feel more modern and still ceremonial,” says Nick. “We encourage couples to have fun with their selections and to pick songs that are meaningful to them. There is no ‘wrong’ choice!”

If you’re having a ceremony in a house of worship, such as a church, make sure to check with your officiant about any restrictions on the type of music you can play.

Pre-Ceremony Wedding Music

Pre-ceremony music is important for setting the mood. As guests take their seats, music can create an atmosphere that’s elegant, romantic, or downright party-tastic. Your choices will subtly give guests a clue of what’s to come for the ceremony and reception.

Nick says this is a time when you can’t go wrong with acoustic or piano covers of popular or classical songs. They fade into the background, but are still upbeat, adding to the anticipation! I think this can also be a great conversation starter for guests (“Wait, is that Taylor Swift?”) as they mingle. (Pst – The Bridgerton soundtrack is another great resource for ideas!)

Wedding Processional Songs

Your processional is a big moment in the wedding ceremony. Choosing a song that reflects you will add to the moment. A processional song is a great place for an instrumental cover of a song that’s meaningful to you and your partner.

On a personal note, I walked down the aisle to an instrumental guitar cover of “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” which was the same song my mom walked down the aisle to. It added to a very special moment, and I still tear up when I hear it! I’ve also seen a bride walk down the aisle to an organ version of the Zelda theme song (she and her husband are big gamers). It was a fun nod to their shared passion, and still felt ceremonial because of the instrument choice.

Wedding Processional Song Suggestions:
  1. Can’t Help Falling in Love – Brooklyn Duo or Piano Guys
  2. Canon in D – Brooklyn Duo
  3. Thinking Out Loud – Brooklyn Duo
  4. I Get To Love You – Ruelle
  5. A Thousand Years – Piano Guys
  6. Here Comes the Sun – Brooklyn Duo

Wedding Recessional Songs

Congrats – you’re officially married! This momentous and celebratory moment calls for music that’s equally exciting! Even if you choose traditional music for your processional, your recessional can be a fun place to mix in something more modern.

Wedding Recessional Song Suggestions:
  1. Signed Sealed Delivered – Stevie Wonder (an acoustic or string cover of this is fabulous as well!)
  2. You Are The Best Thing – Ray LaMontagne
  3. This Will Be (an Everlasting Love) – Natalie Cole
  4. Lovely Day – Bill Withers
  5. Best Day of My Life – American Authors
  6. Sky Full of Stars – Piano Guys

Hit Play on The Playlist

Wedding Cocktail Hour Music

After your ceremony, it’s onto the party! Cocktail hour is a time for your guests to mingle, so the music should be upbeat and lively, but not too loud or distracting. “Don’t worry and stress about trying to pick specific songs or artists,” says Nick. Pick a few artists or songs as inspiration for the direction you’d like, and let your DJ handle the rest.”

Consider choosing a mix of upbeat jazz or French lounge music, or light rock, folk, or mo’town. These choices will add to the atmosphere without taking away from the conversations.

Wedding Dinner Music

Similar to cocktail hour, the music during dinner should enhance the atmosphere but fade into the background. Nick suggests continuing with a similar vibe from cocktail hour, but perhaps a bit slower or more faded. Again, this is a time when you can give your DJ some clues and then relax and let their expertise take over!

The Best Wedding Songs for Your Reception

Ready to really get the party started? If you’re like me and my friends, the dance floor is the highlight of the night, and Nick has tips for getting your guests out there – and staying there all night long!

First, talk with your DJ about the kinds of music you want to hear. “The music doesn’t have to be a typical playlist of Top 40s if that’s not what you want!” says Nick. “We work with couples to make sure the playlists are reflective of their tastes.”

Secondly, give your DJ an idea of what your guest list looks like so they can tailor the playlist to your crew. “Since there are often guests of all ages, we like to cater the song list to appeal to many generations,” explains Nick. This usually involves sprinkling in some more “classic” dance songs, especially toward the beginning of the reception.

You can also work with your DJ to create a “do not play” list if there are songs or genres you specifically want to exclude. (For example, some couples do not want any “group” songs like the Macarena or Cotton-Eyed Joe.)

And what about requests from guests? “We always make sure that couples are okay with us taking requests,” says Nick. “Sometimes guests can come up to us and let us know, and other times it’s easier to communicate via a request sheet. We let guests know that we will do our best to play their requests, but we can’t guarantee it…This is especially helpful when people request songs that are on the couple’s ‘Do Not Play’ List! Ultimately, we want to make sure our couples are happy with the music!”

The Best Wedding Songs – Reception Hits:
  1. Runaround Sue (Nick suggests this is great for the beginning of the night) – Dion DiMucci and The Belmonts
  2. Staying Alive or You Should Be Dancing – Bee Gees
  3. I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) – The Proclaimers
  4. I Wanna Dance With Somebody – Whitney Houston
  5. Yeah! – Usher
  6. Mr. Brightside – The Killer
  7. We Found Love – Rihanna, Calvin Harris
  8. You Makes My Dreams – Hall and Oates
  9. Starships – Nikki Minaj (the last five are especially popular toward the end of the night, says Nick)

First Dance Songs

When choosing your first dance song, many couples choose a specific song or artist that has meaning to them. (Perhaps it’s “your song” or the first concert you went to together, etc.) If you don’t have a specific song in mind, Nick suggests narrowing in on a genre that you both like, and sampling some songs from there. (He’s also happy to make suggestions!)

One tip: be sure to read through the lyrics and ensure the song is wedding-appropriate! And know that your first dance doesn’t have to be the full length of a song; you can work with your DJ to find a good place to fade it out if you’re done!

First Dance Song Suggestions:
  1. Crazy Love – Van Morrison
  2. Thinking Out Loud – Ed Sheeran
  3. All of Me – John Legend
  4. Nothing Can Change This Love – Sam Cooke
  5. At Last – Etta James

Traditional Parent Dances: Father Daughter Dance Songs & Mother Son Dance Songs

Many couples choose to honor their parents through a dedicated dance (ex. Mother/Son, Father/Daughter dance). This can be a very special moment! Similar to your first dance, please note that you don’t have to play the full song if you don’t feel comfortable being the center of attention for that long. Another option is to do one combined parent dance where each partner dances with their parent. That’s what we did at my wedding, and it was nice to have a special moment without it taking up too much time away from the reception. (We danced to “In My Life” by the Beatles)

The Best Wedding Songs For Parent Dances:
  1. I Hope You Dance – Leann Womack
  2. Simple Man – Lynyrd Skynyrd
  3. My Wish – Rascal Flatts
  4. Father and Daughter – Paul Simon
  5. Daughters – John Mayer
  6. Butterfly Kisses – Bob Carlisle

Last Dance Songs

Real talk: I don’t think couples think about this moment enough! It’s common to give a lot of thought to your first song, but how you close the night can also be a core memory. “Think about what you want the vibe of the last song to be: Do you want it to be an upbeat song that everyone can sing to? Something dancy? A slow song?” says Nick. Can’t choose? “We’ve had a few couples choose to do a last group song for everyone to enjoy, and then have a final, private last dance.”

The Best Wedding Songs for Your Last Dance:
  1. When Love Takes Over – David Guetta, Kelly Rowland
  2. Last Dance – Donna Summer
  3.  (I’ve Had) the Time of My Life – Bill Medley, Jennifer Warner
  4. Sweet Caroline – Neil Diamond
  5. Dancing in the Moonlight – Toploader

Finding the Best Vermont Wedding DJ For You

Your DJ is a critical part of your wedding experience! Not only are they in charge of getting the party going, they are integral to keeping the reception on schedule. “Your DJ helps with your grand entrance, toasts, and special announcements throughout the night,” explains Nick. Therefore, it’s key you like their personality and emcee approach.

Nick suggests asking potential DJ’s about their approach to emcee duties and music and explaining what’s important to you to see how you fit. You want a wedding DJ who is not only receptive to your ideas and understands your vision for the evening, but who you can trust to deliver on that so you can relax and celebrate!

Nancy shares there was also no shortage of delicious food and drink that weekend!

As an example of the meaningful traditions celebrated throughout the week, Nancy shared how the ceremony began with the BARAAT, a parade where the groom makes his way to the wedding site filled with joyful music and dancing. After the groom and his party were situated, the bride made her arrival and the couple stood in front of the holy text, with the groom on the right and the bride on the left.  Everyone was ready for the ceremony to begin!

A Sweet and Sentimental Spring Wedding at The Grafton Inn

On a beautiful June day, Jed and Deborah finally got to say “I do” at the wedding of their dreams. Their celebration had been postponed due to the pandemic (check out those cheeky cocktail napkins in the gallery!) and the anticipation of the day made everything that much sweeter. The long awaited wedding was held at the beautiful Grafton Inn in Grafton, Vermont and Hannah Photography captured the memories; check out the gallery below!

A Romantic Wedding Venue in Grafton, Vermont

The Grafton Inn is a romantic, full-service wedding venue. Known for its timeless village setting and beautiful surrounding mountains, Grafton is a top choice for couples dreaming of a storybook, authentically Vermont wedding day.

The Grafton Inn features 45 individually-decorated rooms in a combination of suites and guests houses, blending its historic atmosphere with modern amenities. During the wedding weekend, guests can indulge in inclusive amenities like morning coffee service, seasonal activities at the outdoor center, use of the fitness center, and daily afternoon refreshments in the main lobby.

A Sentimental Wedding Worth The Wait

Jed had been ribbed time and again for not proposing to Deborah on a visit to Paris in 2018. When he finally did pop the question a few months later, as the sun set over Lake Champlain, he bent down on one knee in front of a miniature Eiffel Tower he brought along in his backpack. Deborah  said “yes” before he even got the ring out of his pocket.

Despite the many setbacks and changed wedding dates caused by the pandemic, the couple’s commitment to celebrating their love never wavered.  After a long wait (728 days, to be precise) Jed and Deborah finally got to exchange vows surrounded by loved ones.

Meaningful Wedding Details

Deborah was a classic bride in her  beautiful lace gown from Fiori Bridal Boutique. For accessories, she attached a gold locket with a photo of her sister inside to her bouquet. Deborah lost her sister quite early in life, and wanted to make sure she could have her sister be with her in spirit as she walked down the aisle.

During the ceremony, Deborah and Jed chose to play Josh Groban and Sara Bareilles’ version of “Both Sides Now” to honor family members who had passed – and released butterflies during the song to remind everyone that love always remains, even as it changes form.

For one more unique touch, the couple hired Hope Sharp Art to paint a live wedding portrait. Guests truly enjoyed watching the painting come to life as Hope worked throughout the reception.
