MEET KELSEY OF KELSEY REGAN PHOTOGRAPHY

It’s a good sign you’ve chosen well when you want to stay friends with your photographer after your wedding. Kelsey Regan Springer of Kelsey Regan Photography is that kind of photographer. Case in point? She was introduced to her husband through one of her couples!

With a keen eye for special, spontaneous moments and an easy-going demeanor, Kelsey’s photos and her friendships with couples live on long after last call. If you’re looking for heartfelt photos and a photographer who isn’t afraid to bust a move in between shots (rumor has it Proud Mary is her go-to song) Kelsey is your girl. How did you get into wedding photography?

I got my first nice camera in college and started taking portraits of my friends, which led to one of my college friends asking me to photograph her wedding after graduation. That was in 2012, and I’ve been obsessed with photographing weddings ever since!

How would you describe your photography style?

My style is colorful and bright. I strive to make my colors true to life, and to capture candid moments and genuine emotion whenever possible. When people look at the images, I hope they are transported right back to their wedding day – or for those who weren’t there, make them feel like they were!

What inspires your work?

Heartwarming moments between people in beautiful settings. Admittedly, I’m not the world’s most creative landscape photographer… without people in the frame, I have a hard time feeling creative. But as soon as you put a couple in a beautiful space, it’s magic.

Any special tips for couples for working with a wedding photographer?

Choosing a wedding photographer should be equal parts finding someone’s work you can picture for your own wedding photos and someone who you jive with personality-wise! People spend a lot of thought and care selecting who will be immediately surrounding them on their wedding day, and a photographer should be included in that consideration. I’m with my couples throughout most of the day, so choosing someone who will blend in with your crew is important!

For this reason, I always recommend trying to meet up with or have a video call with your potential wedding photographer to see if you hit it off.

If you weren’t a wedding photographer, what would you do?

I have an undergrad degree from UVM in Secondary Education, so I think I would have been a very happy middle school social studies teacher. I was originally planning to be a teacher and have photography be my side hustle, but the business took off after photography school!

What’s your favorite moment during a wedding?

A couple’s walk down the aisle, right after the ceremony, their first kiss, being introduced as married. It’s always such a joyous moment. They’re freshly married and there’s such a blissful vibe to that moment. Those are often some of my favorite images from the wedding day!

What’s your favorite thing to do in VT?

I’m a lifelong skier, so in the winter I love to hit the slopes & apres scene! (This winter Sugarbush is my home mountain, but I love exploring them all). In the summertime, I love packing up a picnic and watching the sunset over Lake Champlain.

What’s a fun fact about yourself?

I’m a 2nd degree black belt! (10 years of karate as a kid!)
