Located in Fairfield, The Soule House and Carriage Barn is an ideal venue for couples who envision an intimate, rustic wedding with a touch of vintage elegance.
“The authenticity and charm are preserved throughout the property,” says owner Lindsay, who runs the venue with her family. “It truly is an ideal place for a unique, intimate wedding!”
The estate has a rich history. The oldest structure is the main part of the Federal Style Farmhouse, which was built in 1800. The Carriage Barn is dated to 1880, but Lindsay says a barn expert has told them it may be even older based on its construction.
The Soule family purchased the property in 1870 and it remained in that family until 2014. “We are the third owners taking over the estate to run it as a wedding venue,” says Lindsay. “We’re excited to continue the legacy and share this little hidden gem.”
The Soule House is nestled on 5.2 acres and overlooks Fairfield’s small town center, setting the stage for a true Vermont country wedding.
Couples get exclusive access to the property all weekend long. The House comfortably sleeps 12 people, allowing close family and friends to stay and celebrate beyond the formal wedding. (Have some off-site guests? Don’t worry, the House is only 40 minutes from Burlington.)
The property has been lovingly maintained, and provides plenty of charm – but still leaves room for couples to make it their own. Lindsay says couples who are excited to customize a space to suit their needs will feel at home at the Soule House.
In addition to weddings, the House is available for rent for smaller events, such as an engagement party or bridal shower.
Given its proximity to both Jay Peak and Smuggler’s Notch, the House itself would be an excellent choice for a small, winter microwedding for a ski-loving couple and a few of their closest friends.

What’s your favorite moment during a wedding?
The boys will tell you the food is their favorite thing about a wedding. My mom and I agree that the father-daughter dance is always a special moment.
What’s your favorite thing to do in Vermont?
You will often find my mom and me bargain shopping at all the Habitat stores and scouring Craigslist for some cool finds. My dad keeps himself busy with his private apple orchard of Honeycrisp apples and sugaring at his property in Franklin. Bobby, my husband and our resident foodie, is always scouting out the next restaurant to check out and loves menu shopping!
